What to Expect

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions, and that's completely normal!

Whether you're wondering how therapy works, feeling nervous about reaching out, or trying to decide if we're the right fit, I hope you'll find the answers you're looking for here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people reach out because they're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected from themselves, or simply tired of carrying everything on their own. Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, body image concerns, life transitions, or something you can't quite put into words yet, therapy can provide a safe space to better understand what you're experiencing and begin creating meaningful change.

If you've been wondering whether it's "bad enough" to ask for help, it probably is. You don't have to wait until things get worse before you deserve support.

What happens during the free 15-minute consultation?

Think of it as a conversation, not an interview.

We'll spend a few minutes getting to know each other, talking about what's bringing you here, answering any questions you have, and discussing what you're looking for in therapy. It's also an opportunity for you to get a feel for my approach and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.

There's no pressure, no obligation, and no expectation that you have everything figured out before we talk.

What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session is all about getting to know you. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, explore your goals, discuss your personal history at a pace that feels comfortable, and begin creating a plan that reflects your unique needs and strengths.

You don't need to prepare anything ahead of time or worry about saying the "right" thing. Our first session is simply the beginning of getting to know one another and building a space where you feel supported.

What types of concerns do you work with?

I work with adults navigating eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, life transitions, self-esteem, and LGBTQIA+ experiences. Many of my clients come to therapy with more than one concern, and that's completely normal.

You don't have to fit neatly into one category or have a formal diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Wherever you're starting from, we'll work together to better understand your experiences and create an approach that feels right for you.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes! Virtual therapy allows us to connect in a way that's both personal and convenient. Many clients find they feel more comfortable opening up from a familiar environment, while also appreciating the flexibility of attending sessions without the added stress of travel or sitting in a waiting room.

I currently provide virtual therapy for adults throughout Massachusetts. All you'll need is a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and Harvard Pilgrim insurance plans. If you're unsure whether your specific plan includes mental health benefits, I'd be happy to help you determine your coverage before your first appointment.

I also welcome private-pay clients. Choosing to pay out of pocket can offer additional flexibility, including greater privacy, no diagnosis requirement for insurance reimbursement, and the freedom to focus your treatment on your unique goals rather than insurance limitations. If you have questions about insurance or private-pay options, feel free to reach out before scheduling.
